Positive action training

About PATH

WHAT IS PATH?

PATH is a Positive Action Training organisation set up under Sections 37 & 38 of the Race Relations Act in 1985.
PATH is a registered charity (Reg.No.1939658), w
ith an active waiting list of hundreds of Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) people interested in taking up a PATH traineeship, we continue to take primary position in creating work based training opportunities for over 25 years in mainstream and vocational roles. Years of experience and expertise in delivering positive action training makes PATH the leader in supporting private and public employers in realising their diversity policies.

The support of the local council, employers, and over 500 community and faith organisations give PATH a unique and important role in addressing the under-representation of BME communities in various industries and occupations.

As the external environment changes, so do we.  The turbulent economy has led to job insecurity and high unemployment levels UK-wide and poses unique challenges for those who may already have multiple barriers to employment. PATH now offer a wide range of services to support young BME people from deprived communities into employment, through a diverse and bespoke Employment Plan, tailored to the individual's needs and personal circumstances.

BACKGROUND AND HISTORY:

Path Yorkshire Ltd. is a company limited by guarantee, formed under the auspices of the local authority in 1985. It is a registered charity and, with the guidance from our management committee, PATH has become the leading Positive Action organisation in the country, working in partnership with the academic, commercial, statutory and voluntary sectors.

PATH has been endorsed by the Secretary of State for Employment under Sections 37 and 38 of the Race Relations Act 1976, as a Positive Action organisation that can provide training and relevant support to BME communities within mainstream and vocational areas where they are under-represented. This means that where research has identified that BME people are under-represented in a particular occupation or labour sector, then it is lawful for PATH to create and provide training that will equip them to compete for employment in these sectors.

WHO IS RESPONSIBLE FOR PATH?

PATH is managed by a Council of Management. Council members are elected and represent a cross section of the community and business organisations PATH works with. Our Council of Management is made up of representatives from the following:

  • BME led organisations
  • Higher and further education sectors (local authorities, public bodies, employers, voluntary sectors, and communities and organisations engaged in the field of Equal Opportunities and Race Relations)

PARTNERSHIPS

PATH strongly believes in a partnership approach and welcomes organisations wanting to work together to foster closer links and provide a diverse and high quality training provision to address under-representation of BME communities in the workplace.
